Taipei, A weak cold front is expected to arrive in Taiwan on Friday afternoon, sending daytime temperatures down by 4-5 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.
The cold front will also bring clouds, which means the weather will not only be cooler but also wet, with showers in northern and eastern parts of the country from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, CWB forecaster Lin Ting-yi (???) said. Temperatures will range between 15-25 degrees in northern and eastern parts of the country, 16-29 degrees in central Taiwan, and 18-30 degrees in the south, he said.
On Sunday and Monday, the weather across the country will become more stable, but on Tuesday another cold front is expected to arrive, followed by a cold air mass that will create cold wet conditions, Lin said.
Meanwhile, the air quality across most of western Taiwan remained poor, according to the Environmental Protection Administration's air quality monitoring network.
As of 1:00 p.m. Friday, the air quality index was flashing orange and red alerts at 28 monitoring stations in the western part of the country, signaling that the air was unhealthy for sensitive groups and for the general public, respectively.
The EPA's AQI takes into account ozone, PM2.5 and PM10 particulates, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide concentrations in the air.
