For people seeking a special summer outing, Yunlin County in central Taiwan is offering a unique agricultural exhibition that opened Saturday with an opportunity for visitors to join some of the 500 hands-on classes being held over the next two weeks.
The 2022 Yunlin Agricultural Design Expo (???????) is “an exhibition unlike any other,” County Magistrate Chang Li-shan (???) said at the opening ceremony.
“Covering various aspects of life, art and culture and centered on Yunlin’s agriculture, it will definitely change visitors’ ideas about agriculture by showing them the innovation and the future prospects of the county’s farming and fishery industries,” she said.
Spread across the expansive premises of the county’s Beigang Sugar Factory, the expo features six areas that focus on themes like rice, fruits and vegetables, fishery, and animal husbandry.
The activities, which run through Aug. 14, include a total of 500 classes that allow visitors to try their hand at making peanut butter, soy sauce and ready-to-eat food items, according to the organizers.
Visitors can also join a series of two-day tours to some of the historic districts and tourist sites in the central Taiwan county, the organizers said.
One of the major features of the expo is the promotion of Yunlin-grown Gukeng coffee, which is being served in a setting that resembles a typical European alleyway.
With a population of just under 700,000, Yunlin is one of Taiwan’s major agricultural areas, supplying rice, fresh produce, and fish products to other parts of the country.
