Ministry prepares program for community working in informal sector

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has prepared an Earthquake Resistant Growing Home Program (Ritta) for the community working in the informal sector.”Currently, the ministry and our partners are preparing a pilot project for the Ritta Program in Prabumulih City, South Sumatra, for the informal sector,” the ministry’s director of public and commercial housing of the Directorate General of Housing, Fitrah Nur, said in Jakarta, Wednesday. He said the ministrycontinues to collaborate with partners to implement housing development programs for the community and that contributions and support from various sectors, both government and private, are direly needed. For the Ritta program, the ministry had gathered support from the local government for land, electricity, and water facilities; housing finance development supported by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from PT. SMF, gas supply from Pertamina, and road construction work by the provincial government. “The targeted recipients of the Ritta Program assistance are people, who work in the informal sector in Prabumulih City, such as scavengers and street sweepers. Later, the local government will collect data on potential recipients of the housing assistance,” Nursaid. He pointed out that through the Ritta Program, the informal sector community, such as scavengers and street sweepers, will be able to have a type 18 earthquake-resistant house, with a plot area of 72 square meters. For the Ritta Program, the Prabumulih city government will prepare two hectares of land for the construction of around 100 earthquake-resistant houses. The houses will be built using the Simple Healthy Instant House (Risha) technology developed by the Ministry of PUPR, he said. “The Prabumulih regional government has prepared two hectares of land for 100 housing units. Meanwhile, the PUPR Ministry has prepared a site plan and construction for the Risha earthquake-resistant house, namely the type-18 house, which can be further developed, with a plot area of 6 x 12 meters or 72 square meters,” he added. To support the livelihoods of people working as scavengers, he said the ministry will collaborate with the Cipta Karya Directorate to facilitate them with plastic cutter machines. Thus, their collected plastics can be processed into plastic pellets that can be sold at competitive prices. “We hope that the Ritta Program can run smoothly in the field and be duplicated by other local governments to improve people’s welfare,” he said. PMT focuses on low-weight children, malnourished pregnant women

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Supplementary Local-Based Ingredient Food Provision (PMT) program is focusing on children with low weight and pregnant women with poor nutrition as part of efforts to reduce stunting, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has said.”The first (priority) recipients are children whose weight does not increase or tends to decline,” he informed during a PMT activity unveiling event here on Wednesday. If children’s weight does not increase or even tends to decline, it can cause stunting in the future, he explained. Earlier, the stunting rate was successfully reduced, however, the wasting (low weight) figure ended up increasing, he added. The second priority recipients are pregnant women lacking nutrition. According to Sadikin, a good pregnancy is the biggest factor that determines children’s condition prior to their birth. “Mothers are intervened by having their arms measured, (the reading should be) at least 23.5 cm. Their Body Mass Index (BMI) should also not be below 18.5. Do not let them go below normal,” he said. Several types of foods are being provided under the program, primarily animal proteins, such as meats, eggs, and fish, since they contain beneficial nutrients that can help prevent stunting. The plan is to implement PMT for these two priority groups at all public health centers (puskesmas) in Indonesia in the near future by cooperating with district or city governments and puskesmas. Children who have already experienced stunting will continue to receive the usual treatment, such as monitoring from doctors at hospitals, he informed. The ministry is aiming to bring down the national stunting rate to 14 percent by 2024. The PMT program is expected to help reduce the stunting figure in Indonesia.

S. Korea to introduce measures to beef up display industry this week

South Korea’s finance minister said Wednesday the government plans to come up with measures to bolster the competitiveness of the display industry with the goal of reclaiming the top position in the global market.

“South Korea had been the leading player in the display sector from 2004 to 2020, but the competition has been intensifying due to the rise of latecomers, such as China, particularly in the OLED sector,” Finance Minister Choo Kyung-ho said ahead of a meeting with economy-related ministers.

“During the meeting, we plan to discuss detailed measures, and the industry ministry will release details later this week,” Choo added.

South Korea has already rolled out several measures to revitalize the sector, offering a tax credit rate of 15 percent on facility investment in strategic industries, including chips and displays, higher than the previous rate of 8 percent.

The rate for small and midsized enterprises (SMEs) also rose from 16 percent to 25 percent. An additional 10 percent cut will be applied for the increased amount of investments compared with the average of the previous three years.

The finance minister said the government will provide customized support to SMEs to address economic uncertainties.

Outbound shipments of such businesses fell 7.9 percent on-year in the first quarter of 2023, reflecting the country’s ailing exports, according to the data compiled by the finance ministry.

South Korea will open what it calls “the global business center” in Saudi Arabia in September to support Korean firms seeking business opportunities in the Middle East, and build a logistics center at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, in the near future that will serve small businesses, Choo said.
