Dharmasraya, West Sumatra (ANTARA) – Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini stated during the commemoration of the 27th National Elderly Day that there should be no further instances of parental abandonment by kids.”Do not abandon parents. We would not be able to walk without parents’ (guidance), that is the important thing. If you are indeed unable (to take care of them), entrust (them) to us. Seek for (assistance from the) Social Affairs Ministry’s offices. Do not abandon them, as we will take care of them as good as possible,” she noted.

Rismaharini delivered the statement in Dharmasraya, West Sumatra, on Monday.

The minister stated that her administration had chosen some elementary school and middle school students as ambassadors for elderly care.

The minister noted that based on some findings by the ministry’s offices, including one in Padang, West Sumatra, several old people live in culverts or tunnels. Hence, she appealed to everyone to prevent recurrence of such cases.

“One day, we will become old, (and) when we are old, of course, we do not want to be forgotten and abandoned. While we were pursuing education, parents have taken care of us, funded us. We want to be able to respect parents and elderly, who have given us so much,” she remarked.

s part of the commemoration of National Elderly Day, the ministry disbursed a total of Rp23.89 billion (US$1.6 million) in aid. The forms of assistance granted, comprise civil rights services for elderly people, including issuance of the electronic identity card, birth certificates, family card, and marriage registration.

The ministry provides the opportunity of administrative registration for elderly couples whose marriages are only recognized in Islamic law, so their marriages can be listed in the state’s records. The Social Affairs Ministry collaborates with the local religious court to host the registration from May 22 to May 25, 2023.

The ministry also offers basic health checkups, such as for blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and uric acid, as well as performs cataract surgeries and blood donations.

t the event, Minister Rismaharini also commended elderly and other people — individuals, family, or groups — who have contributed to the betterment of issues surrounding elderly people.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Some 37 Indonesians, whose passports were held by a company in Bokeo, Laos, were repatriated to Indonesia, an official of the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated.Director for Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities of the ministry Judha Nugraha said, the Indonesians could be repatriated from Laos via the Chiang Rai route, Thailand, as their visas were still valid.

The 37 Indonesians are part of the 45 Indonesians employed as online scammers in a company operating in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Laos.

“Meanwhile, eight other Indonesian citizens could not leave Laos yet because their passports are still held by the company,” Nugraha noted via text message, Monday.

The Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane has coordinated with the Bokeo Police to retrieve the Indonesian citizens’ passports held by the company and seek legal measures on the case.

The case emerged when an Indonesian, identified by his initials as MNH, sought government assistance as his passport, along with the passports of dozen other Indonesian workers, were detained by a company in Laos.

ccording to MNH on his social media account, they have quit their job in the company.

The Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane immediately responded to the report by sending a request for assistance to the Bokeo Police to retrieve the passports of the Indonesian citizens.

Presidential Staff Office (KSP) expert staff Siti Ruhaini Dzuhayatin stated on Sunday that the government has worked quickly to tackle human trafficking crimes that tricked its victims into online scamming.

“The release and repatriation of trafficking victims, who were forced into online scamming, is the result of the government’s quick work in dealing with it from the upstream to downstream level,” Dzuhayatin affirmed.

ccording to the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s report, in early May, at least 25 Indonesian citizens were released from the Myanmar-Thailand border conflict area. The release process was assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok.

Not long after that release, the Indonesian government and the Philippines authority released 240 trafficking victims at a company complex that allegedly operated an online fraud.

Of the total victims, 53 were repatriated on May 25-26, while the rest were still undergoing legal processes in the Philippines.

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – The Bali Province Law and Human Rights Service, under its Immigration Office, remains firm in supervising the behavior of foreign nationals in Bali Island.On an ongoing basis, the deportation for troublesome foreigners continues to be intensified in Bali.

This aims to maintain security and order as well as to teach them a lesson to obey the law in the country.

Based on immigration records in Bali from January to April 2023, some 101 foreigners were deported from Bali, while since the international gate was reopened in Bali from May 2022 to December 2022, some 194 foreigners had been deported from the Indonesian territory via Bali.

Based on the Service’s record, citizens deported, among others, came from Russia and several other countries, such as Nigeria and Ukraine.

Mode of Misbehaving Foreigners

Head of the Bali Provincial Law and Human Rights Service, Anggiat Napitupulu, noted that misbehaving foreigners were found to have misused residence permits, overstayed the time limit set in their residence permits, committed criminal acts, and violated the norms in Bali, among others.

In detail, the Denpasar Immigration arrested a foreigner from Ivory Coast, a country in the West African region, with the initials AJK, on December 8, 2022, who entered Indonesia using a 30-day visit visa-free of charge.

The 28-year-old man entered Indonesia in February 2019 and worked in Jakarta as a cook for African cuisines.

ccording to data from the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center, AJK, while living in Indonesia, also committed criminal acts by skimming or stealing the financial data of customers outside Indonesia.

fter being arrested by Denpasar Immigration, he was handed over to the detention center, as he could not be deported immediately because the perpetrator’s family did not have the money to facilitate his return to his country.

fter collecting money from AJK, he was finally sent home on Wednesday, May 16, 2023.

nother case involved tourists from Russia, with the initials SN and IN, who misbehaved at the Pengubengan Temple area, which is in one of the largest temple complexes in Bali, namely Pura Agung Besakih in Karangasem District.

nother case that came to light was of LK, a Russian citizen, who was also found to have misbehaved. LK had entered Bali using a limited stay permit as an investor but rather took nude photos in the area of one of the temples in Marga Sub-district, Tabanan District.

The foreigner’s behavior violated the norms applicable in Indonesia, especially customs in Bali, and caused unrest and disturbed public order.

In another incident, a Ukrainian citizen, with the initials as VB, entered Bali on a limited stay permit as an investor but worked as a masseuse, specifically for foreign tourists instead.

Immigration officials also reported violations of the visa on arrival (VOA) facility committed by a tourist, with the initials HB, from Ukraine who actually worked as a photographer.

part from being based on public reports, the misbehaving foreigner was also arrested with the help of digital patrols conducted by the Immigration along with the Foreigner Monitoring Team (Pora).

They conducted monitoring of social media platforms linked to the activities of foreigners, including tourists suspected of violating immigration laws.

Residence Permit

The rules for staying permits for foreigners have been regulated in Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

To enter the Indonesian territory, foreigners must complete all requirements for obtaining their residence permit. There are three residence permits in the country, namely a visit stay permit, limited stay permit, and permanent stay permit.

The average number of violations found were committed by foreigners who used visit residence permits and limited stay permits by claiming themselves to be investors.

Based on data from the Directorate General of Immigration, foreigners must complete the permit with a visit visa for one trip, with a duration of 60 days to 180 days, or six months, and can be extended.

Furthermore, there are multiple travel visas for a maximum of 60 days for each arrival.

Moreover, a visit visa on arrival, or VOA, at a cost of Rp500 thousand, is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for 30 days.

Currently, Indonesia provides VOA facilities for tourists from 92 countries.

This visa can be used for a variety of purposes, namely social visits, business purposes, and vacations, while a limited stay permit, especially for investors, has a duration in Indonesia starting from one year and a maximum of two years.

Tourist guide

The Bali Provincial Government had prepared guidelines for domestic and foreign tourists regarding information containing regulations during their stay in Bali.

This effort was made to prevent any disturbance to security by learning from the emergence of incidents of some tourists, who committed dishonorable acts in the sacred area of the temple, a place of worship for Hindus.

Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Service, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, stated that his side had discussed the guide with several parties, including tourism actors in Bali, such as the Bali Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) and the Bali Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI), before finalizing the regulation by the Provincial Government Legal Bureau.

Later, the regulations will be printed in leaflets in English and Indonesian and then distributed to tourists.

Foreign Tourist Visits to Bali

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) noted that foreign tourist arrivals in Bali reached a peak in 2019, with a total of 6.3 million.

The visits dropped to around one million foreign tourists in 2020 and went quiet in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The arrivals of foreign tourists to Bali increased again in 2022, reaching 2.3 million people, as the COVID-19 case count began to decline.

Due to a decrease in the number of cases, the Indonesian government decided to reopen Bali for foreign tourists that was followed by high number of arrivals of domestic and foreign tourists in Bali.

However, the start of the rebound in Bali’s tourism was tarnished by the actions of a handful of foreign tourists.

Hence, the firmness of law enforcement officials in Bali towards misbehaving tourists should be supported by all parties, including the public and tourism actors.

ll of this aims to ensure that those foreign tourists obey Indonesian laws and respect local customs and culture in Bali in order to support higher quality tourism on the island.

The arrivals of tourists in Bali is indeed important, but adherence to social, cultural, religious, and legal norms must be upheld.

Indramayu, W Java (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Zainut Tauhid Sa’adihasurged hajj pilgrims departing from the Indramayu Hajj Dormitory in West Java Provinceto look after each other, and stay healthywhile performing thisannual ritualin Saudi Arabia.”This year’s hajj pilgrimage season is performed in summer. Thus the temperature in the Holy Land is around 40 degrees Celsius. Hence, pay attention to your own health, diet, and rest time,” he remarked here on Sunday.

In his remarks while dispatching the pilgrims, he asked the pilgrims to take care of their health during their stays in Saudi Arabia by considering the fact that performing the hajjneeds physical endurance.

Furthermore, the pilgrims must also maintain their diet well to enable them.to conduct all the pilgrimage rituals properly, the deputy minister added.

“Having a good rest is also important. Do not spend your energy on less useful activities. It is better to use it for praying,” he emphasized.

He also asked the pilgrims to take care of each other owingto the fact that many elderly pilgrims need help from everyone.

Sa’adi noted that many elderly hajj pilgrims are not accompanied by their relatives. In one flight group with a yotal.of 300 pilgrims, there are also only eight officers.

“We ask your (all pilgrims’) cooperation to accompany and look after each other. By doing so,the elderly pilgrims can also perform their worship solemnly,” he stated.

The Religious Affairs Ministry noted that some 67 thousand out of the 210 thousand Indonesian pilgrims this year are elderly.

Hence, the Health Ministry deploys Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs), comprising 15 medical specialists in anesthesia, internal medicine, surgery, neurology, and cardiology.

Furthermore, 12 general practitioners, 43 nurses, and an emergency room are also provided to serve the pilgrims.

The first batch of the Hajj pilgrimage flight groups will depart for Saudi Arabia from May 24 to June 7, 2023. Meanwhile, the second batch of the flight groups will depart from June 8 to June 21.

The first batch of the flight groups will return to Indonesia from July 4 to July 18, and the second one will return from July 19 to August 2.
