Asian Open Water Swimming Championships to be held in Nantou

Taiwan will host the Asian Open Water Swimming Championships for the first time in June, with around 150 participants expected to compete at Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County.

The announcement was made Thursday with Nantou County Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua (???) inking the pact with Asia Swimming Federation official Soh Yew Siang (???), and Chinese Taipei Swimming Association Chair Chen Yen-pang (???).

Hsu said the swimming event will start from June 1-6 at Sun Moon Lake, a spot known to swimmers for the annual Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival.

Hsu said she hoped the event would attract more tourists to the county in central Taiwan, according to a press statement issued by the Nantou County Government.

There were over 80 swimmers from 14 countries that participated in the tournament last year when it was held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Soh said.

As a swimmer who has longed to take part in the local swimming carnival, Soh said he believed the event this year would run smoothly and attract more competitors.
