SK E&S and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners reach financial close on Jeonnam 1 offshore wind project in Korea

Jeonnam I – a 99-MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Shinan County, Jeonnam Province in the southwest of Korea – has reached financial close and construction completion of the wind farm is expected by the end of 2024

SEOUL, South Korea and COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Oct. 11, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Jeonnam I is a joint venture between SK E&S, one of the largest conglomerates in South Korea, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (“CIP”) through its fund Copenhagen Infrastructure III (“CI III”).

Jeonnam Offshore Wind Power was founded in 2020 as a 51-49 joint venture between SK E&S and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and the project is expected to become the first Korean commercial scale offshore wind farm to go into operation in 2024. The project has been developed by a joint team comprised by SK E&S and Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), the exclusive offshore wind development partner to CIP.

SK E&S and CIP are also jointly developing Jeonnam 2 and Jeonnam 3, two offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 800MW currently in the development phase. Jeonnam 1, 2 and 3 will support Korea’s ambitious target of reaching 14,3GW of offshore wind power by 2030, a significant increase compared to the existing 0,1GW installed today.

Jeonnam Offshore Wind Power obtained Electricity Business License in 2017 and entered a grid connection agreement with KEPCO, the state-owned utility in South Korea, allowing the project to connect to the grid during 2024. In 2022, Jeonnam I was awarded a 20-year fixed-price offtake agreement with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power through Korea’s first wind offtake auction.

Throughout 2022, the project also signed manufacturing and construction contracts with Korean suppliers including Hyundai Engineering and Steel Industries, Hyundai Electric and Gaon, KT Submarine and LS Cable and System. The project will utilize Mokpo New Port as marshalling port throughout construction, given the port’s ideal location near the Jeonnam 1 site.

Jeonnam 1 CEO Daniel Yun said, “SK E&S is proud to be leading the offshore wind industry in Korea with this landmark project. Jeonnam 1 is expected to provide green electricity equivalent to approximately 60,000 households in Korea.”

Jeonnam 1 COO Jesper Krarup Holst commented, “We are delighted to reach this milestone and enter the construction phase together with our JV partner and the project team. Together, we have demonstrated the power of close collaboration across companies and cultures to resolve tough challenges, to reach financial close, and to support Korea in its efforts to achieve their ambitious renewable energy goals.”

Torsten Lodberg Smed, senior partner at CIP, said, “Korea has a vast potential for offshore wind and CIP has, since entering the Korean market in 2018, invested significantly in developing the country’s wind power projects in multi-giga watts scale and its supply networks and foster a strong industry ecosystem. We are proud to have reached financial close and entering the construction phase on Jeonnam 1 and we look forward to completing this landmark project together with our partners.

CIP is also pursuing partnerships in Korea regarding the development and supply of blue and green ammonia into Korea to further facilitate Korea’s green transition.”

NGO Seeks Help From Advocates of Human Rights and Religious Freedom to Stop the Persecution

Center for Studies on New Religions’ Bitter Winter Publishes Exclusive Interview with Japanese NGO Leader Moriko Hori About Daily Discrimination Against Their Volunteers, Programs

About Daily Discrimination Against Their Volunteers, Programs

Women’s Federation for World Peace Japan Reports Sudden Denial of Goods and Services,
Use of Public Spaces, and Rejection of its Educational Programs

NGO Seeks Help From Advocates of Human Rights and Religious Freedom to Stop the Persecution

TORINO, Italy (October 10, 2023) Bitter Winter, a magazine of the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), has been following the Japanese government’s unusual and intrusive investigation—and possible liquidation—of a minority religion, which began after the July 2022 assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Dr. Massimo Introvigne, editor-in-chief of Bitter Winter, recently interviewed Moriko Hori, president of the Women’s Federation for World Peace Japan (WFWP), about the persecution and discrimination her NGO is experiencing at the behest of a hostile lawyers’ group.

That group—the National Network of Lawyers Against Spiritual Sales (NNLSS)—has been at the forefront of attacking the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification/Unification Church. The Family Federation and WFWP share the same founders, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, but are separate organizations; nevertheless, the NNLSS has been slandering WFWP Japan and its women volunteers as well.

WFWP Japan is an independent service organization that welcomes women volunteers of any faith—or no faith—and serves low-income women and children in 50 countries. Its founding organization, Women’s Federation for World Peace International, was recognized in 1997 by the United Nations, which granted it general consultative status at its Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This status is reserved for “fairly large, established international NGOs with a broad geographical reach” that have offered “substantive and sustained contributions” aligned with the aims of the United Nations in multiple fields.

“Women who are part of WFWP Japan, including many who are not members of the Family Federation and never were, live in a very difficult situation. Their lives have been shattered, and they are bullied and discriminated daily in many different ways,” said Mrs. Hori.

For instance, one city suddenly informed WFWP Japan it was prohibited from using its public facilities for events because WFWP “causes fear among” the city residents, Mrs. Hori said. But this notification was “particularly absurd, given that WFWP, as a volunteer organization, has been contributing to the community … for 30 years, with projects that the local citizens know and appreciate.”

Another casualty of apparent bigotry is the WFWP Japan’s flagship project—a speech contest for female foreign students on their abilities to speak Japanese. “On June 15 of this year, NNLSS issued a protest against the Speech Contest, requesting that local governments and universities should not permit the use of public facilities by WFWP Japan,” she told Dr. Introvigne. “WFWP members were astonished by this protest,” she said. The Speech Contest, which has been conducted for 26 years, “has been widely praised as a way of supporting international female students who come to Japan.”

Mrs. Hori said WFWP Japan is appealing to the United Nation Human Rights Council and also seeks support from groups that work to protect human rights and religious freedom.

“The persecution and interference against WFWP, its members, and those who receive help from the organization are acts of religious hatred and clear violations of human rights,” she said. “I believe that only international support may change this situation” by contacting the Japanese government and “telling them this persecution should cease.”

Indonesia consistently voices aspirations of island countries: Jokowi

Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) – Indonesia consistently echoes the interests of island and developing countries at various international forums by involving these countries in the 2022 G20 Summit, ASEAN Summit, and the 2023 High Level Meeting of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.”Indonesia is also committed to preparing grant funds to be used for the interests of archipelagic countries and developing countries,” President Jokowi remarked while opening the 1st High-Level Meeting of the AIS Forumhere on Wednesday. In the midst of world conditions replete with competition, conflict, and declining trust, unity and cooperation between the archipelagic and island countries is essential, according to Jokowi. Moreover, developing countries and small island countries are the ones that are most vulnerable to being affected by the climate change crisis, he pointed out. Hence, Jokowi pressed for strengthening cooperation, so that AIS Forum member countries can face various global problems, such as sea level rise, marine resource management, and marine pollution. “Indonesia would like to invite all countries present to continue to build unity and collaboration in the midst of world division. Let us walk and walk together,” Jokowi stated in his appeal. Indonesia is hosting the 1st High-Level Meeting of the AIS Forum, which is attended by 30 countries out of 51 AIS countries and four international organizations. t the head-of-state level, Indonesia noted the participation of President of the Federated States of Micronesia Wesley Simina, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Xanana Gusmao, the Premier of Niue Dalton Tagelagi, Prime Minister of SaPound o Tome and Principe Patrice Emery Trovoada, and Prime Minister of Tuvalu Kausea Natano. Deputy PM of Fiji Manoa Seru Nakausabaria Kamikamica and Deputy PM of Tonga Samiu Kuita Vaipulu were also present at the meeting. Meanwhile, delegations of other countries are led by ministers, deputy ministers, high-ranking officials, and ambassadors during the high-level meeting. Implementation of the high-level meeting focuses on the strengthening of cooperation for tackling four global issues: climate change mitigation and adaptation, the blue economy, the handling of ocean plastic pollution, and maritime governance. In the meantime, the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment announced a funding commitment of US$5 million for the 2022-2025 period to support the existence of the AIS Forum as a real contribution to sustainable development.

AIS Forum represents one-third of world’s oceans

Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) – The Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum, with its 51 participating countries, represents about one-third of the world’s oceans, thereby reflecting its potential to have great power globally.”If the 51 countries speak in international forums, such as the United Nations, of course, they will be heard,” Assistant Deputy for Delimitation of Maritime Zones and Border Regions at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Sora Lokitastated during the First High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the AIS Forum here on Wednesday. Through the summit that was held on October 10-11, Indonesia invited AIS participating countries to sit together to find smart solutions and explore cooperation to address their common challenges. The AIS Forum is expected to become a center for producing innovative solutions and a cooperation platform for encouraging global maritime governance. Lokita explained that the locations of the 51 participating countries stretch from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. He pointed out that at the forum, developed, developing, and least developed countries sit together to discuss the challenges of governing oceans in the future. With their wide ocean coverage, he noted that countries included in the forum have huge potential to develop a sustainable blue economy. Since its establishment in 2018 through the Manado Joint Declaration, archipelagic and island countries in the forum have shared experience and knowledge with one another. “Many countries, such as Madagascar, have not seen (the potential) of oceans. They do not have fisheries storage or processing facilities. This is about the matter of mindset and timing to become the future’s great economic power, and that is why AIS Forum seeks collaboration,” Lokita affirmed. The 1st HLM of the AIS Forum is expected to produce a joint declaration by AIS leaders that will aim to establish the forum as a treaty- or charter-based international organization and one that can produce concrete cooperation programs.

AIS Forum seeks smart solutions from scientists for marine issues

Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) – The Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum invited scientists to find smart and innovative solutions to resolve marine issues.”This conference is important as a place to learn, exchange ideas, and share innovations related to crucial issues in oceans and the future of island nations,” Head of the AIS Forum SecretariatRiny Modasostated during the First High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the AIS Forum in Nusa Dua here on Wednesday. Indonesia hosted the 1st HLM of the AIS Forum in Bali on October 10-11 to invite archipelagic and island countries to discuss four global issues together, namely, climate change, blue economy, handling plastic waste in oceans, and maritime governance. Some 22 researchers from the AIS countries presented current research and development and innovations related to marine biotechnology, sustainable aquaculture and fisheries, blue economy, and ocean and technology. “This becomes a platform to showcase how science can contribute to marine ecosystem preservation in the future,” he affirmed. Some innovations have been produced under the AIS Forum, such as the MonMang that can monitor mangrove ecosystem health, the Seagrass Carbon Converter (SCC), and the Advanced Drifter GPS Oceanography Coverage Area (ARHEA). To showcase togetherness, those innovations have been shared with other countries, such as the application of MonMang in Fiji, Germany, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, rectors from the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and Padjadjaran University (Unpad) signed a partnership cooperation agreement related to maritime governance with Toliara University, Madagascar. The cooperation encompasses knowledge sharing and capacity building for technology and innovation implementation, including the development of rumpon, or a fish aggregating device, which is new in the country. The cooperation also covers strengthening the skills of fishing communities in Madagascar, especially in developing a more sustainable blue economy.

New AI Survey from Notified and PRWeek Finds PR Pros Believe in the Power of the Technology, Want Education and Resources to Drive Meaningful Usage

Data Reveals a Majority of PR Pros Are Very Optimistic About AI, Believe It Can ‘Notably’ Impact Strategy Development

NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Notified, a globally trusted technology partner for public relations, investor relations, and marketing professionals, today announced the results of its latest survey, “Bridging the Gap Between AI & PR: a Short Guide,” in partnership with PRWeek. The data revealed increasing enthusiasm about AI’s potential to optimize communications campaigns, with more than half of respondents indicating that the tech can “notably” improve PR’s ability to be strategic.

“The survey findings were clear – PR professionals are no longer worried about AI replacing them and are excited about its potential, beyond initial use cases like content generation,” said Nimesh Davé, President, Notified. “However, most survey respondents don’t yet feel comfortable using available tools in a meaningful way and feel they’re not as knowledgeable as they could be when it comes to implementing AI into their daily work. Agency and brand leaders should focus on education – which will be critical to adoption – including policies, resources and guardrails for experimentation.”

The survey asked 200 senior agency and brand communicators to identify how AI could impact the future of public relations – taking factors such as adoption and usage, popular tools, and the knowledge and education needed for effective implementation into account. Findings include:

  • Education is Required: More education is needed for PR pros surrounding the uses and applications of AI – and most communicators aren’t currently using the tools they have heard of in a meaningful way beyond experimenting. Only 12% of survey respondents say they were “very knowledgeable” about AI and its applications to PR functions. Additionally, only 36% of in-house respondents vs. 22% of agency respondents reported that they “currently know the difference between Narrow/Weak AI and General/Strong AI.”
  • AI Shows Promise For Strategic Work: Communicators believe that AI can improve productivity and streamline job functions. 57% of respondents believe that AI can “notably” improve their ability to be more strategic, and 54% of respondents feel that the technology can “notably” improve their ability to tell stories.
  • Content Generation Is Still King: 61% of survey respondents ranked “content creation” as their top application of AI, with 59% feeling that it can be done “notably” better with the technology than without it. 55% felt that writing prompts will be a new skill that PR pros will need to master in order to successfully use AI for content.

New AI Survey from Notified and PRWeek Finds That PR Pros Believe in the Power of the Technology, Want Education and Resources to Drive Meaningful Usage

A Media Snippet accompanying this announcement is available by clicking on this link.

“We’re just starting to see how much AI technology can truly impact productivity for communications professionals – and the industry is increasingly embracing this technology to streamline everything from content creation to generating insights and research materials,” said Gideon Fidelzeid, Editorial Director of Custom, PRWeek. “This report captures the confidence and optimism that communicators have in AI to transform their workflows – although it’s clear that widespread adoption across both agencies and in-house teams starts with improving proficiency surrounding its effective use. As the data reflects, we’re at an exciting precipice for the use of AI technology in PR – with the potential to create a more effective and efficient future for communicators.”

Notified and PRWeek will present these survey findings during the panel session, “AI: A Call to Action” at the upcoming PRDecoded Conference, taking place from October 11-12 in Chicago, IL.
