Body of missing Kaohsiung sailing coach found

Rescuers on Thursday recovered the body of a man whose sailing skiff capsized on Lotus Lake in Kaohsiung on Wednesday, an incident which also left a 9-year-old boy dead.

Firefighters said that the coach, a 61-year-old man surnamed Tsai (?), had been dead for some time when his body was spotted by a drone at 5:53 a.m. on Thursday floating not far from the scene of the accident.

According to police, Tsai had been giving a private lesson to a 9-year-old boy surnamed Wang (?) on the boat at the time it capsized 500 meters from the lake shore at around 2:46 p.m. on Wednesday.

Wang was pulled from the water not long after the accident but was pronounced dead shortly after being sent to the Zuoying Branch of Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital, police said.

Following an autopsy Thursday morning, prosecutor Yen Yu-shan (???) told reporters that no serious injuries had been found on the bodies of the two, adding that Wang had been wearing a life jacket while Tsai had not.

Police said they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
