Kanom Jeen with crab curry, made by Grandma, selling for only 20 baht.

Surin, Take you to Surin to eat Khanom Jeen with crab curry made by a 66 year old grandmother. It’s not expensive, just 20 baht. Customers love it, they finish a pot every day.

Grandma Phichit Srikaew or Grandma Thom, 66 years old, Ban Sangkae, Tael Subdistrict, Sikhoraphum District, Surin Province, spends her free time cooking food to sell within the village. Along with bringing the idea of ??using rice crab to make khanom jeen liquid for customers in the village. Lots of customers ordering Barely able to deliver and sell in time Because it’s not expensive, selling for 20 baht per bag, adding a plate is also 20 baht. Villagers come to support us every day, there’s hardly enough to sell.

My 22-year-old niece told me that I once told Grandma Thom to stay home. Don’t have to do anything. The grandchildren gave it to them to eat and use. It wasn’t difficult, but Grandma wanted to do it, so she did what she wanted. The things she invested in brought a profit of only a few baht. 5-10 kilograms of khanom jeen a
day. They sold it all and got a profit of about 200-300 baht. Grandma never complained, whether it was a loss or a profit. Wake up early and sit and scrape coconuts to make khanom jeen liquid.

Grandma Thom said that every day she doesn’t know what to do. Nowadays, rice is famine and expensive. If we sit and wait to open our hands to receive from our children and grandchildren, we can’t handle it. Our hearts want to do it. As for the crab curry paste, I thought of making it myself. Before, I only made jungle liquid and chicken liquid. But it was seen that during the rice harvest Villagers dig rice crabs to sell. The crab during this time will be very oily. So he tried using rice crab to make a solution. Customers respond well Until I could barely make it in time.

BANGKOK, Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai on Wednesday announced the cooperation between the ministry and ‘Be On Cloud’, a world class company known for producing popular Boys Love or ‘Y’ Series TV dramas, to promote Thai products and services to the international market.

Mr. Phumtham said he wanted to see Thai products at the global market together with Thai TV series production and related industries.

Mr. Phumtham who is also Deputy Prime Minister attended a press conference to announce the collaboration between the ministry and ‘Be on Cloud’ to produce a ‘Y’ series TV drama titled ‘Shine’ for domestic and international markets.

Under the partnership, the ministry is using two Y Series heart-throbs -Phakphum ‘Mile’ Romsaithong and Nattawin ‘Apo’ Wattanagitiphat.

The TV series is also aimed at promoting gender equality, he said.

‘I am the Minister of Commerce. My duty is to sell things, to provide the opportunity for the products of the Thai farmers to be in the market and in the world,’ said Mr.
Phumtham.

He added that the Ministry of Commerce has to do something new, something outside the box.

originating in Japan that features homoerotic relationships between male characters.

Successful Winter Youth Olympics strengthens S. Korean reputation as ‘outstanding host’: IOC chief

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said Thursday that South Korea’s successful hosting of the Winter Youth Olympic Games further solidified the country’s status as “an outstanding host” of Olympics.

Bach made the remark at a press conference in Gangneung, some 160 kilometers east of Seoul in Gangwon Province, where the fourth edition of the Winter Youth Games will draw to a conclusion Thursday evening after a two-week run.

Bach called Gangwon 2024 “a brilliant success” that served as a “great demonstration of Olympic legacy” of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games, held in the same eastern province. Bach cited the reuse of many PyeongChang 2018 facilities during the youth competition as an example, while also pointing to the growth of young winter sports athletes in countries with little winter sports tradition with the help of PyeongChang officials.

Bach said the success of the two Winter Olympic Games over the past six years helped South Korea establish itself “as the premium Olymp
ic organizer.”

“You cannot compare the organization of Olympic Games with Youth Olympic Games. It’s a very different concept. So both, in their own right, were a resounding success for Korea and for the entire Olympic movement,” Bach said at his press conference at the Main Media Centre. “With regard to future organization of Olympic events, I think if Korea is considering this, these brilliant Games here have not only confirmed but have even strengthened the reputation of Korea as an outstanding host, and not only an efficient host but as a country people full of passion for the sport and full of hospitality.”

The earliest Summer Games that South Korea can host will be in 2036, with Seoul having expressed an interest. The South Korean capital held the 1988 Summer Olympics. The IOC will select the host of the 2030 Winter Olympics in July this year, leaving the 2034 competition as the next one available for any future host cities.

If South Korea were ever interested in hosting another Olympics, Bach said th
e IOC will always have its doors open.

“We are aware of some considerations to host in the future again, the Olympic Games. And maybe Olympic Games mean Summer Games in this respect,” Bach said. “We can only say Korea as a host is always very well appreciated but it’s, first of all, in the hands of our Korean friends to take all the developments into consideration and then to take a decision whether they want to apply to be a future host. At the IOC, Korea is always welcome and even more so after Gangwon 2024.”

(LEAD) Cuba’s new ambassador to N. Korea assumes post

Cuba’s new ambassador to North Korea has begun his duties, according to the North’s state media Thursday, as countries having friendly ties with North Korea have ramped up diplomatic activities in the secretive regime since the opening of its border.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was presented with the credentials of Cuban Ambassador Eduardo Luis Correa Garcia from Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The letter of credence was received by Choe Ryong-hae, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People’s Assembly, on Wednesday upon the authorization of the North’s leader, it said.

North Korea and Cuba have long maintained a close relationship since they established their diplomatic relationship in 1960.

Since North Korea partially opened its border last year amid eased concerns over COVID-19, diplomatic missions of countries with close ties with North Korea have resumed activities in the North.

In September last year, the Russian Embassy in P
yongyang was believed to have raised the number of its staff members. Nicaragua, a country considered to be standing against the United States, is believed to have a plan to open an embassy in North Korea soon.

In April 2023, China’s new ambassador to North Korea, Wang Yajun, began his official duty after his arrival was delayed for years due to the North’s border shutdown. Earlier this week, Mongolia’s new top envoy to Pyongyang submitted a letter of credentials to the North.

Meanwhile, North Korea has shut down nine of its diplomatic missions since the second half of last year amid economic difficulties, according to Seoul’s foreign ministry. The total number of North Korean diplomatic missions had stood at 44 as of Tuesday.

The North has pulled out of Hong Kong and Libya in recent months in the latest of a series of the shutdown of its diplomatic missions, including Angola, Nepal, Bangladesh, Spain and Uganda.

Winter Youth Olympics ends with host S. Korea offering glimpse into promising future

The fourth edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games will draw to a conclusion Thursday evening in eastern South Korea, with the host country’s teenage athletes having provided a glimpse into a promising future.

Gangwon 2024 was held across the namesake province as the first Winter Youth Olympics outside Europe, after Austria, Norway and Switzerland hosted the first three editions. This was also the largest Winter Youth Games, with 1,802 athletes from 78 nations participating.

South Korea had the largest delegation with 102 athletes, and the host country delighted the home crowd to the tune of five gold, six silver and four bronze medals through Wednesday, with more medal events scheduled for later Thursday.

Though medal totals were tallied in real time on the event’s website, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) doesn’t officially archive the medal table for future reference, unlike the senior Olympic Games. This is by design. The IOC wants to foster friendly exchanges among young athletes from arou
nd the world and offer educational opportunities through sports, rather than put these athletes in high-pressure, high-intensity competitive environments.

On the other hand, the joy of seeing homegrown athletes grabbing medals still drew tens of thousands of spectators to venues across Gangwon Province, the same places that hosted events during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

All ice events for Gangwon 2024 were held at the Olympic venues from six years ago, as were ski jumping, biathlon and sliding events. Youth Games organizers and IOC officials frequently highlighted the reuse of the 2018 Olympic venues as a key feature of Gangwon 2024, something that allowed the legacy of the first Winter Games in South Korea to live on six years later.

Gangwon 2024’s own legacy will be the growth of young athletes who will successfully use their performances here as a stepping stone for their careers.

The most recent senior Winter Games in Beijing two years ago featured 341 Youth Olympics alumni. They combined
for 53 medals, including 24 gold medals.

South Korea will be hoping its athletes will be able to join the party at Milano-Cortina 2026 and beyond.

In Gangwon, South Korea grabbed four medals from short track speed skating and three medals from speed skating, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the country’s strong pipeline of skating talent.

It also seemed fitting that the country’s first gold medal of the competition came from short track, the event South Korea has long dominated internationally, as Joo Jae-hee grabbed the men’s 1,500-meter title.

The wide distribution of medals was also encouraging for South Korea, as it grabbed medals in sports it had rarely excelled in before.

The host country’s second gold medal came from bobsleigh, where So Jae-hwan won the men’s monobob title. He became the first Asian, male or female, to win a sliding gold medal in Youth Olympics history. Shin Yeon-su earned bronze in the men’s skeleton, the first Youth Olympic medal by an Asian athlete in that event.

In other history-making performances, Kim Hyun-gyeom won the men’s singles figure skating gold medal to become the first South Korean male figure skater to do so at a Youth Olympics. The women’s hockey team grabbed silver in the 3-on-3 tournament, the first Olympic hockey medal ever for South Korea.

Shin Ji-a, considered a medal favorite in the women’s singles figure skating, lived up to her hype by taking home silver.

Two medals came from freestyle skiing, with Lee Yoon-seung winning the men’s dual moguls gold medal and helping South Korea to silver in the mixed dual moguls event.

Snowboarder Lee Chae-un won the men’s slopestyle gold medal and was scheduled to go for his second gold of Gangwon 2024 in halfpipe, his main event, later Thursday.

As the host of the 2018 Winter Games, South Korea captured its first-ever medals in skeleton, bobsleigh, curling and snowboard. In all, South Korea collected 17 medals, its most at a Winter Games.

The country was not able to build on that success four years later i
n Beijing, where it reverted to its old ways and only won medals in short track and speed skating, totaling just nine.

If the young medalists from this winter can follow in the footsteps of other Youth Games alumni and thrive at the next Winter Games two years from now, then the country’s first Winter Youth Olympics will be remembered as a vital part of its winter sports history.

(LEAD) Host S. Korea grabs 2 gold medals on final day of Winter Youth Olympics

South Korea picked up two gold medals on the final day of the Winter Youth Olympics on home soil Thursday, producing a pair of double gold medalists in the process.

South Korea captured the gold medal in figure skating’s team event at Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, some 160 kilometers east of Seoul, over the United States and Canada.

South Korea earned 13 points, with a victory in each discipline worth five points. The U.S. had 12 points and Canada finished with nine.

Kim, who won the men’s singles gold medal Monday, led the five skaters in the team event with 136.38 points.

Shin Ji-a, the silver medalist in the women’s singles on Tuesday, added five points by coming out on top among five female skaters with her personal-best 137.48 points.

South Korea earned three points from ice dance, where Kim Jinny and Lee Namu finished third with 82.15 points.

With the women’s singles being the last leg of the team event, South Korea’s fate hinged on Shin’s performance.

Shin admitted later she felt the pressu
re of having the color of the team’s medal come down to her skate, but the lesson learned from her individual event helped her a great deal.

During Tuesday’s free skate, Shin received zero points on her change foot combination spin, a rarity for a skater of her caliber, en route to taking the silver behind Mao Shimada of Japan.

On Thursday, Shin earned the full “Level 4” for the same spin element, and also scored high points on all of her jumps.

“I learned so much from the individual event. I figured out which aspects of my skate to really zone in on, and that helped me post such a great score,” Shin said. “I was able to enjoy my skate out there because my teammates were really supportive.”

Kim Hyun-gyeom became South Korea’s first double gold medalist at Gangwon 2024. Then moments later, snowboarder Lee Chae-un joined him.

Lee won the men’s halfpipe gold medal at Welli Hilli Park Ski Resort in Hoengseong, just west of Gangneung, with 88.50 points. He had earlier won the men’s slopestyle gold medal last
Thursday.

Lee pulled out of the big air event Saturday with an ankle injury. Although the injury was considered minor, Lee skipped the big air competition so that he could focus on the halfpipe, his main event. And he came through with the very last gold medal for the host country.

The 10 snowboarders in the final each had three runs, and their best score out of the three became their final score.

Lee led the field with 87.25 points after the first run, and he outdid himself with 88.50 points in the next run.

Lee clinched his gold medal even before performing his third run, as the boarders in front of him couldn’t match Lee’s highest score in their last run.

Alessandro Barbieri of the U.S. got the silver medal with 84.75 points and Ryusei Yamada of Japan earned bronze with 83.00 points.

Lee came into Gangwon 2024 as a huge gold medal favorite in the halfpipe. He won the senior world title in that event last March and added a World Cup bronze medal in December.

“I am so happy to have put on a good show
in front of Korean fans,” Lee said. “I wasn’t entirely happy with my score. I wanted to test my limits in my third run but I didn’t quite get it done. But I am still pleased.”

Lee, 17, has established himself as an early medal contender at the 2026 Winter Games in Italy.

“I’d love to win a gold medal at the senior Olympics,” Lee said. “I think I should be able to build on my experience here and do well at the Olympics without feeling nervous. I want to keep improving.”

The teenager also said, beyond winning an Olympic medal, he wants to become synonymous with his sport, a la snowboarding legend Shaun White.

“I want to reach a point where people will utter my name, instead of Shaun White, when they think of snowboarding,” Lee said.

South Korea finished the Winter Youth Olympics with seven gold medals, six silver medals and four bronze medals.
