CORONAVIRUS/Airport adds free Greater Taipei buses for arrivals

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport began offering free bus services to New Taipei and Taipei on Monday as an alternative to quarantine taxis, an airport official said.

Five new daily services during the peak hours at 8 a.m. and between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. will take arriving passengers to Sanchong Stadium on New Taipei Boulevard and the Binjiang Street side of Xinsheng Park in Taipei, Taoyuan International Airport Corp. Senior Vice President Hong Yu-fen (???) said during a daily COVID-19 press conference in Taipei.

Only passengers who have someone to pick them up at those two locations in New Taipei and Taipei can take the free bus, and they will need to first register before boarding the bus, Hong said.

Meanwhile, existing bus services taking passengers to Taichung, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County, which were introduced last year with a ticket price of NT$400 (NT$13.3), became free of charge on Monday, Hong added.

All passengers can take the bus to the seven stops in central and southern Taiwan, where taxis designated to take people arriving from abroad to their quarantine locations are available.

Those passengers taking the bus to central and southern Taiwan can also be picked up by their friends or relatives, according to Hong.
