CORONAVIRUS/Hon Hai denies rumors of severe COVID-19 disruption at China plant

Electronics giant Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. denied reports Wednesday that its operations in Zhengzhou, China, had been severely disrupted by COVID-19, describing rumors of 20,000 infections at its plant in the city as “disinformation.”

In a statement, Hon Hai, known as Foxconn globally, said production in Zhengzhou remained normal despite sporadic cases among the plant’s 300,000 workers.

According to the South China Post, Hon Hai has barred workers from the campus’s cafeterias and requested that they eat meals in dorms as a pandemic-prevention measure.

Meanwhile, on social media, people claiming to work at the Zhengzhou campus said the facility’s managers were ignoring positive cases and had moved 19,000 employees to other parts of the campus.

In response to CNA’s inquiries, Hon HYai said operations at its Zhengzhou plant, which is involved in iPhone assembly, had remained stable, adding that taking care of worker health was its top priority.
