CORONAVIRUS/New round of rapid test rationing to start Nov. 1

The seventh round of the government’s COVID-19 rapid test kits rationing scheme will begin on Nov. 1, with holders of National Health Insurance (NHI) cards or Alien Resident Certificates (ARC) entitled to purchase up to six five-test kits, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced on Wednesday.

The NT$500 (US$17) five-test kits will be available at 4,489 NHI-contracted pharmacies and 79 public health centers, the CECC said, adding that people who want to buy more than one kit can purchase them all at once or separately.

In addition, new rounds of two separate free rapid test kit programs — targeting families with children aged six or under (born on or after Sept. 2, 2016) and seniors aged 65 or older (born in 1957 or earlier) — start on the same day, the CECC said.

The two groups are also entitled to their quota of rapid test kits under the rapid test rationing plan, the CECC said.
