New Taipei will deploy 100 supervisors to oversee the pandemic prevention and response measures of the city’s schools before the winter break comes to an end Friday.
The supervisors will work with the city’s schools to make sure that all city regulations are being observed and followed in preparing for the reopening, New Taipei City Education Department Commissioner Chang Ming-wen (???) said.
As of Wednesday, the city’s schools were well stocked with supplies needed to respond to a COVID-19 outbreak, Chang’s department said, two days before all schools below the high school level, including kindergartens and preschools, reopen on Feb. 11.
The city’s health department will also complete disinfecting all New Taipei schools by Thursday.
New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (???) said Wednesday that the city will continue requiring schools to close down immediately when a confirmed case is discovered.
In those situations, the school will be closed for disinfection and all students will be required to be quarantined at home for 14 days, but they will still be able to learn at home, Hou said.
The city publicized its preparations for the reopening of schools as four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 involving a New Taipei family were reported.
On Wednesday, the city’s health department said two members of the family took the subway system around Taipei and New Taipei recently and visited various convenience stores and fast food restaurants.
The city is still calculating the number of people who came in contact with members of the family, but many of them have already been notified to get tested for COVID-19, the health department said.
