Beginning July 22, people aged 18 and above who intend to travel abroad for work will be eligible to receive a second booster COVID-19 vaccine shot, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Thursday.
Those who wish to get vaccinated will need to bring their National Health Insurance (NHI) card, vaccination record card, proof of their flight, and either an invitation from an overseas organization, a permit issued by a government authority, or an approval letter from the individual’s place of work, to the vaccination site, CECC head Victor Wang (???) said at a press briefing.
The expansion applies to those traveling abroad for work, such as for foreign affairs, government, or business purposes, Wang said.
The CECC will consider whether to further expand eligibility to those traveling overseas for study, Wang said.
The minimum interval between one’s first and second booster is 150 days, and it is recommended that people get the second booster at least two weeks prior to their departure date, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (???) told CNA.
Currently, a second booster is available to those aged 65 and above, residents of long-term care facilities, medical workers, and individuals aged 18 and above who are immunocompromised.
Also eligible are airline crew members, care facility employees, those working at airports and other ports of entry, and people whose job requires them to be in contact with individuals in quarantine.
The CECC announced Wednesday that people aged 50 to 64 will be eligible to receive a second booster shot beginning July 22.
Those interested in getting vaccinated can use the CECC’s map to find a hospital or clinic providing the service, or contact their district health centers for more information, according to the CECC.
To date, 91.5 percent of Taiwan’s population has received at least one dose, 85.6 percent have gotten at least two doses, and 71 percent have received a booster.
