Taiwan reported 25,692 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, all but 171 of which were domestic infections, and 28 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased ranged in age from their 30s to over 90, according to the CECC.
Of the 4,439,148 domestic cases reported in Taiwan this year, 9,125 have been classified as severe infections and 11,368 as moderate, accounting for 0.2 percent and 0.26 percent of the total, respectively, according to CECC data as of July 26.
In all other cases, the infected persons were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, the CECC said.
Regional breakdown
On Wednesday, New Taipei recorded the highest number of domestic cases, with 4,504, followed by Taichung with 3,168, Taoyuan with 2,680, and Kaohsiung with 2,630.
Taipei reported 2,573 cases, Tainan 2,032, Changhua County 1,231, Pingtung County 781, Miaoli County 750, and Hsinchu County 694.
Yunlin County recorded 631 cases, Yilan County 609, Hsinchu City 603, Chiayi County 497, Hualien County 460, Nantou County 424, Keelung 346, Chiayi City 322, Taitung County 280, Penghu County 151, Kinmen County 146, and the Matsu Islands 9.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 4,498,416 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 4,479,242 domestic infections.
With the 28 deaths reported Wednesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 8,714.
