Taiwan on Tuesday reported 32,287 new cases of COVID-19 and 32 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All but two had underlying health issues, while 20 of them had not received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine as recommended by experts, the CECC said.
The number of people arriving from China who tested positive for COVID-19 remained low, according to CECC data.
Of the 922 travelers who arrived in Taiwan directly from China on Jan. 29, 10, or 1.1 percent, tested positive for the disease, as did one of the 137 people (0.7 percent) who traveled from Xiamen in China to Kinmen or Matsu.
Also on Tuesday, the CECC reported 38 new COVID-19 cases classified as moderate and 23 as severe.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new cases, with 5,815, followed by Kaohsiung with 3,946 and Taichung with 3,936.
Taoyuan reported 3,427 new cases, Tainan 2,935, Taipei 2,790, Changhua 1,586, Hsinchu County 952, Miaoli 900, Pingtung 895, Yunlin 854 and Hsinchu City 667.
Yilan had 616 cases, Chiayi County 514, Nantou 494, Keelung 481, Hualien 458, Chiayi City 270, Taitung 220, Kinmen 134, Penghu 123 and the Matsu Islands 10, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 9,537,823 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 48,584 classified as imported.
With the 32 deaths reported on Tuesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 16,308.
