CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 54 new COVID-19 cases, including four domestic

Taiwan on Monday confirmed 54 new COVID-19 cases, consisting of four domestically transmitted cases and 50 that originated abroad, with no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

One of the new domestic cases is a Miaoli County resident whose infection is linked to a cluster of unknown origin that has recorded cases in New Taipei, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hsinchu County, and Miaoli County, the CECC said.

The three other cases were reported in Kaohsiung and their infection sources are also unknown. The CECC has not yet linked them to any previously reported clusters.

In addition to the domestic cases, Taiwan also reported 50 imported cases on Monday, 27 of whom tested positive upon arrival in Taiwan. The CECC did not release any information regarding the vaccination status of the imported cases.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 19,621 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,323 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported on Monday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the country remains at 851.
