COST OF LIVING/Hi-Life to raise tea egg price to NT$13 from Jan. 4

Hi-Life will raise the price of its tea eggs from NT$10 to NT$13 from Wednesday, Taiwan’s third-largest convenience store chain announced Tuesday.

The move comes after rival FamilyMart — the number two chain in the country behind 7-ELEVEN — announced it would increase the price of tea eggs to NT$13 from Dec. 28.

To cushion the blow of the price hike, Hi-Life has rolled out several limited-time offers to tea egg lovers that will last as late as Jan. 31.

Until the end of January, customers who purchase qualifying products can get one tea egg for an extra NT$1.

In addition, customers can get two tea eggs for NT$20, or two tea eggs along with one qualifying drink with a minimum spend of NT$39.

By Jan. 10, people can purchase 30 tea eggs via Hi-Life’s app for NT$280, bringing down the average of each tea egg from NT$13 to less than NT$10.
