Deep Purple smokes other colors in Taiwan iPhone 14 presales

According to online vendors and telecoms operators in Taiwan, Deep Purple has been the most ordered color scheme for Apple’s new iPhone 14 Pro series smartphones after presales opened on Friday.

Speaking with CNA, Chunghwa Telecom Co., one of the three largest telecom service providers in the country, said Saturday that its clients had rushed to place orders for the new flagship iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max smartphones, with the new Deep Purple color scheme the most in demand.

On Sept. 7 (U.S. time), Apple Inc. unveiled its four latest iPhone models: the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are both powered by Apple’s new A16 Bionic chip.

The A16 Bionic chips have been built using Apple’s first 4-nanometer process, which is believed to have been made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic chip – also thought to have been produced with help from TSMC, and the same chip used on last year’s iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

The flagship 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max are available in four different color schemes – Silver, Deep Purple, Space Black, and Gold, according to Apple.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone Plus are available in five different color schemes – Midnight, Purple, Starlight, RED, and Blue.

Chunghwa Telecom said its stock of new iPhone models available for preorder were all snapped up within five minutes of going on sale Friday.

However, Chunghwa Telecom did not disclose the exact number of new iPhones it had sold.

According to Chunghwa Telecom, 80 percent of Apple fans wanted to buy the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max with 512GB of storage, while Deep Purple was the most popular color scheme.

For its part, Taiwan Mobile Co. said the iPhone 14 Pro series accounted for almost 80 percent of its presales, with Deep Purple phones making up 60 percent of preorders for the series’ flagship models.

Meanwhile, Far EasTone Telecommunications Co. said more than 50 percent of its preorders had been for the Deep Purple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Far EasTone added that the iPhone 14 Pro series made up 80 percent of preorders as of 4 p.m. Friday, and that the aggregate sales volume topped that of the predecessor iPhone 13 series seen last year.

Meanwhile, online vendor Yahoo Kimo said preorders for iPhone 14 series phones were 20 percent higher than those for iPhone 13 models last year.

Yahoo Kimo added that the flagship iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Max were the most preordered models, with Deep Purple making up for almost 60 percent of the total iPhone 14 Pro series sales.

Fellow online retailer momo said Deep Purple iPhone 14s attracted the most preorders, with consumers appearing to favor the 256GB models.

On its website, Apple said consumers who successfully placed preorders Friday would have to wait for six to seven weeks to receive their iPhone 14 Pro, while those who ordered the iPhone 14 Pro Max will have to wait longer — seven to eight weeks — to get their phones.

Unlike the “hair band” seen on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max have a new pill-shaped cutout called Dynamic Island, which Apple said can morph into different shapes and sizes for functions including incoming phone calls, alerts, notifications and Face ID authentication on the back of a combination of hardware and software.

Prices for the iPhone 14 on Apple’s online store for consumers in Taiwan start at NT$27,900 (US$902.91), with iPhone 14 Plus models starting at NT$31,900, Pro at NT$34,900, and Pro Max at NT$38,900.

This makes the starting prices for the iPhone 14, Pro, and Pro Max NT$2000 more expensive than last year’s iPhone 13 models.
