Japanese budget carrier Peach Aviation will resume its flights to Taiwan starting from Sept. 16 after a 17-month service suspension due to COVID-19.
Peach Aviation said its services between Taoyuan and Osaka will be its second flight resumption after it announced last month that it would resume flights between Osaka and Seoul from late August at a time when more and more countries have eased their border control.
According to the Japanese carrier, it will provide two round-trip flights between Taoyuan and Osaka each week, with tickets having started to go on sale on July 14.
After its establishment in March 2012, Peach Aviation launched flights to Taiwan in October of that year, flying passengers between Taoyuan and Osaka.
The airline had run 10 routes between Taiwan and Japan, the highest number among the carrier’s flights to a foreign destination before it suspended all of its international services on April 8, 2021 due to the pandemic.
After the route between Taoyuan and Osaka, it had also launched flights for Tokyo (Haneda)-Taoyuan, Tokyo (Narita)-Taoyuan, Okinawa-Taoyuan, Fukuoka-Taoyuan, Sendai-Taoyuan, Hokkaido-Taoyuan, Tokyo (Narita)-Kaohsiung, Osaka-Kaohsiung, and Okinawa-Kaohsiung.
Peach Airlines Executive Director and CEO Kenaki Mori said he hoped that passengers will travel from all parts of Japan to Taiwan via Kansai Airport, and from Taiwan to all parts of Japan so that exchanges among people around the world will become more convenient.
He added that Peach Aviation will gradually resume international flights and expand its route network, aiming to become a bridge between Asia and Osaka for the 2025 World Expo, which is scheduled to open in the Japanese city in April 2025.
