Ko vows to cultivate TPP talent ahead of 2024 elections

Outgoing Taipei Mayor and recently reelected Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je (???) said Saturday that his upcoming departure from office would allow the TPP to focus fully on cultivating talent ahead of the 2024 elections.

In a social media post, Ko said his top priority during his second term as TPP chair would be improving the party’s organizational structure.

According to Ko, this will include implementing an open and fair selection, promotion, and assessment system for both party leaders and grassroots positions.

Ko admitted that splitting his time between the TPP and city hall in the three years since the party’s founding had led to a raft of internal disputes.

However, Ko, noting that the TPP had managed to win the mayor’s race in Hsinchu as well as 14 city and county councilor races during the Nov. 26 local government elections, vowed to devote himself wholeheartedly to the development of the party over the next year.

Ko told party members that as the TPP was a minor political party, it must position itself to “serve the people” by being innovative, serious, and responsible.

According to the TPP, 106 people were elected to internal party positions Saturday, with one seat left vacant.

While the TPP will seek to pick up seats within the Legislative Yuan in 2024, observers have said that the party’s primary goal will be Ko’s expected presidential run.
