MAC announces simplified application process for Chinese visitors

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) on Thursday announced that the application process for prospective Chinese visitors has been simplified as the nation gradually returns to pre-COVID-19 normalcy.

With Taiwan not yet fully returning to the standard government operations that were in place before the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation remains closed to most Chinese nationals.

Currently, Chinese nationals wishing to visit Taiwan to seek medical services, visit relatives or for business related matters have to submit applications to the relevant government agencies, MAC Deputy Minister Jan Jyh-horng (???) said at a routine press briefing.

At the peak of the pandemic, Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) conducted the final review of applicants’ submissions, Jan explained.

With the pandemic at its conclusion, the final process involving the CECC has been omitted, simplifying applications, Jan said.

He added that the nation will continue its efforts to return to pre-COVID-19 normalcy, making visits between Taiwan and China easier for people from both countries.
