MOFA dismisses speculation about planned U.S. visit by president

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) dismissed speculation on Saturday that President Tsai Ing-wen (???) will soon visit the United States and give a speech at an American academic institution.

Such speculation has been rife in the media recently and further fueled by certain politicians, MOFA said.

However, there is no substance to these rumors, MOFA said as it assured the public that it and the Presidential Office would inform them of any plans for the president to visit another country.

Tsai made two stopovers in the U.S. — in New York and Denver — in July 2019 on her way to visit the nation’s diplomatic allies in South America and on her return, during which she received high-level treatment from the U.S. and set many precedents, MOFA said.
