Astronomy buffs across Taiwan will be able to see part of a partial lunar eclipse on the early evening of Nov. 19, the Central Weather Bureau said Wednesday.
The full celestial event will take place from 2 p.m. to 8:06 p.m., when the Earth is positioned between the sun and moon, partially blocking the light, according to the bureau.
However, the phenomenon will not be observable until 5:02 p.m.-5:17 p.m. across Taiwan, when the moon rises, it said.
The good news is that people will still be able to witness the peak of the eclipse, which will be at 5:03 p.m. when the moon is at its closest to the center of the Earth’s umbra — the innermost and darkest part of a shadow, the bureau said.
At that time, the moon will appear crescent-shaped, with only its lower right side visible, according to the CWB.
The eclipse will be visible with the naked eye, it said, adding that stargazers should look to the horizon in an east-northeasterly direction around sunset.
As only part of the moon will enter the Earth’s umbra, the moon will not appear copper red as it does at the peak of a total lunar eclipse, the bureau said.
The next full lunar eclipse to be visible from Taiwan will not occur until Nov. 8 next year, it said.
