Smart City expo to kick off March 22 in Taipei, March 24 in Kaohsiung

The 2022 Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) will be held from March 22 to March 25 in Taipei, and in Kaohsiung from March 24 to March 26, with this year’s event set to double in size, according to organizers.

The Taiwan Smart City Solutions Alliance (TSSA), one of the organizers, said that a total of 450 exhibitors will showcase their innovations across almost 1,500 booths, a 50 percent increase compared with 2021.

According to the TSSA, the Digital Transformation Takes Smart Cities to New Heights-themed SCSE will also be held online.

It will be the first time the annual SCSE will be held in Kaohsiung after it opens in Taipei.

The TSSA said the 2022 SCSE is expected to attract more than 120,000 professional visitors.

The TSSA added that a total of 188 city mayors and representatives from 76 cities in 34 countries will attend the SCSE online for exchanges, while 45 city mayors or representatives will come to Taiwan in person.

At the 2022 SCSE, Taipei will hold two meetings as part of a smart city mayoral summit, Taoyuan will hold a forum on city sustainability, and Kaohsiung will hold forums on smart city living, net-zero carbon emissions, and green energy development, according to organizers.

According to the SCSE website, the Taiwan Climate Partnership will hold a forum on March 23 in Taipei in conjunction with representatives from Taiwan’s information communications technology supply chain in net-zero carbon emissions.

Representatives from Taiwanese tech heavyweights, such as contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) and power management solutions provider Delta Electronics Inc., will also make an appearance at the forum.

In addition, Jonney Shih (???), head of the Taiwan Business Council for Sustainable Development and also known as the chairman of PC brand Asustek Computer Inc., will address a conference on sustainability and circular economy solutions March 24.

Meanwhile, Chunghwa Telecom Co., one of the leading telecom services providers, said it will participate in the 2022 SCSE by demonstrating its efforts in 5G and augmented reality (AR) applications.

Chunghwa Telecom said its 5G technologies have been applied to several recent events such as the countdown party in Kaohsiung and a music festival in Taoyuan.

In addition, its AR technologies have been used for guided tours at the National Palace Museum, the company said.
