Taiwan donates digital equipment to Ukrainian school

Taiwan donated digital devices and portable power generator equipment to a high school in the Ukrainian city of Lviv on Sunday as part of efforts to help the war-torn country rebuild its teaching environment, the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) said in a statement on Monday.

The donation to Grono high school included items such as laptops, tablets and maker tools and was a collaboration involving MODA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwanese personal computer brand Acer Inc. and Ukrainian Catholic University, according to MODA.

In a pre-recorded address to the donation ceremony, Digital Affairs Minister Audrey Tang (??) said science and technology seek to create a better future for all people, and political factors should not be an obstacle to cooperation.

This is the original intention behind Taiwan, the United States, Ukraine and 60 partner countries signing the “Declaration for the Future of the Internet” last year, she added.

Tang said that based on the concept of cooperation in the declaration, Taiwan extends a helping hand to war-torn Ukraine and hopes that through the donation, Ukrainian students will be able to enjoy a continuous learning environment and connect to digital resources around the world.

Tang also expressed hope that the partnership established on this occasion will allow Taiwan and Ukraine to open a window for more cooperation in the future, because both countries share common values, namely human rights, the rule of law and freedom.

Meanwhile, she also extended an invitation to Ukraine to attend the Free Digital Democracy Dialogue (F3D) next year, hoping to connect democratic countries and share an infinite future.

Tang visited Lithuania 1ast week to attend the first F3D, which was co-organized by MODA and two Lithuanian institutions.

During the visit, she also announced that MODA will participate in the Ukrainian reconstruction plan initiated by Lithuania.
