Taiwan men’s doubles duo reach WTT Contender Almaty tournament final

Taiwanese paddlers Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) and Liao Cheng-ting (廖振珽) routed their opponents three sets to zero on Saturday to reach the men’s doubles final at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Almaty 2022 tournament in Kazakhstan.

The world No. 24 men’s doubles duo defeated Kazakhstan’s Denis Zholudev and Sagantay Kurmambayev 11-2, 11-8, 11-8 in 14 minutes in their semifinal at the Table Tennis Centre ADD in Almaty.

It is the second time the Taiwanese pairing have reached the final of a table tennis tournament this season.

The first time was in March at the WTT Star Contender Doha 2022, which they lost to the German duo Dang Qiu and Benedikt Duda in a five-set match.

The Taiwanese pair face Anton Kallberg and Mattias Falck of Sweden in the final on Sunday.

The Contender Almaty in Kazakhstan is the last WTT Series event before the Chengdu 2022 World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals, to be held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 9, according to the organizer.
