Two Taiwan soldiers injured during infantry training

Two infantry soldiers in Kaohsiung were injured Thursday, when an explosion occurred at a site where they were engaged in rifle training, according to an army education and training unit.

The injuries were not life-threatening, however, the unit said, adding that one soldier sustained a head wound, and the other injured a finger.

The soldiers were setting up a target range for rifle training, when the explosion occurred on the ground near them at the Army Infantry Training Command in Fengshan, Kaohsiung, the unit said.

It did not provide any information on the type of explosion or the cause, saying only that the incident will be investigated by a special task force.

According to the unit, the two injured soldiers were treated at Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital and are in stable condition.
