Vietnamese worker dies after falling into garbage shredder

A Vietnamese migrant worker in Changhua County was found dead Friday after he fell into a garbage shredder, police said.

The incident occurred Friday morning at a waste management company in the county, where an employee saw chunks of red flesh coming out of the shredder and notified the shift leader, who stopped the machine and took attendance.

After the Vietnamese worker, 32, was found missing, a review of the company’s surveillance footage found that he had fallen into a garbage shredder.

He was pronounced dead by police at the scene, which was cordoned off, pending an investigation by the Changhua District Prosecutors Office.

The worker had been married and working at the company registered in the county’s Fangyuan Township for many years, a source said.

Changhua County labor officials said they have asked the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to perform an on-site investigation and were trying to contact the worker’s family in Vietnam.

They said they would help the worker’s family claim compensation for the accident and hold a funeral.
