Yoon discusses economic cooperation with visiting Michigan governor

President Yoon Suk Yeol met with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in Seoul on Thursday to discuss economic cooperation, the presidential office said.

During their meeting at the presidential office, Yoon asked for Michigan’s support for South Korean companies, noting that South Korea is the world’s “second-biggest” investor in the U.S. state, according to his office.

Yoon said many Korean companies have invested in the state to create jobs, contribute to developing its key industries, such as the automobile and heavy industries, and diversifying supply chains in the area.

Whitmer gave thanks for Korean companies’ investment in Michigan and said she hopes to see stronger cooperation between the two sides in the rechargeable battery industry and economic security, Yoon’s office said.
