CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 62 new COVID-19 cases, including 4 domestic

Taiwan reported 62 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, including four domestic infections linked to Taoyuan International Airport initially confirmed by Taoyuan City government Thursday evening, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The domestic COVID-19 cases include a 27-year-old security guard working at the airport’s Terminal 2, as well as two members of the Golden Voice (?????) social club and the sister of one of the infected social club members.

Meanwhile, the new imported cases involve people aged from their teens to 70s, who entered Taiwan between Dec. 22 and Jan. 6 after being in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Vietnam, India, Austria, Chile, Germany, Canada, Ireland, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Mexico, Spain and Costa Rica, the CECC said.

In addition, the CECC announced new details about its COVID-19 booster shot policy, reducing the required interval between the second vaccination jab and a booster shot from five months to three.

The booster shot program, effective from Friday, will be eligible to anyone aged 18 and over who received their second COVID-19 jab a minimum of 12 weeks ago.

CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan shortens booster shot interval to 12 weeks

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has decided to shorten the interval between getting a second COVID-19 vaccine shot and a booster shot in Taiwan to 12 weeks, effective immediately.

Health and Welfare Minister Chen Shih-chung (???), who also heads the CECC, said Friday the decision to shorten the interval was made Thursday evening in consultation with members of Taiwan’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

The interval was previously set at five months, but a preliminary consensus was reached to shorten it to 12 weeks, beginning Jan. 7, to address the current outbreak of the Omicron strain of the COVID-19 virus, the CECC said in a statement Friday.

According to Chen, any individual who has received two shots of the Medigen, Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT) or Moderna vaccine can choose any of those vaccines or an AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine as a subsequent booster.

Only a half dose of the Moderna vaccine will be administered as a booster, however, in keeping with the company’s recommendation.

Chen also suggested that people who received two AZ jabs should choose a different brand as a booster for better protection.

In its statement, the CECC said Taiwan is well stocked with vaccines, and those eligible for boosters under the new regulation can schedule a booster through their local health department and get a time and location where they can get the shot.

CORONAVIRUS/4 more cases confirmed in Taoyuan airport cluster, bringing total to 12

The Taoyuan City government confirmed four additional domestic COVID-19 cases linked to a cluster at Taoyuan International Airport Thursday night, increasing the total number of infections related to the cluster to 12.

The new COVID-19 cases include a 27-year-old security guard working at the airport’s Terminal 2, as well as two members of the Golden Voice (?????) social club and the sister of one of the infected social club members, according to officials.

The security guard worked in the departure and arrival halls in Terminal 2 and had worked the entire week save for Jan. 2. Central Epidemic Command Center’s on-site commander at the airport Victor Wang (???) said at a news conference.

While the security guard uses her own vehicle to commute to work, Wang said it was possible she had infected her coworkers in their shared guard office.

He added that out of the 391 securities employed at the airport, 67 had already tested negative from quick tests.

A press statement from Taoyuan’s health department on Friday revealed that one of the infected from the Golden Voice social club is a 58-year-old male taxi driver who developed symptoms on Jan. 4.

The remaining cases linked to the club are a 59-year-old woman who developed symptoms on Jan. 3 and her sister.

An infected cleaner at Taoyuan airport who visited the social club’s premises every day from Dec. 29 to Jan. 2 is thought to be the source of the infections.

According to the department previously, 800 people attended a New Year’s Eve party at the club at which people ate and sang.

Although the infected cleaner said she had not been in the venue’s main function room, all members of the social club are to be tested for COVID-19, said Taoyuan City Department of Public Health Director Wang Wen-yen (???).

Results are still pending for over 100 club members as of Friday, with Wang adding that those living near club members should also get tested.

Wang also said that a Taoyuan elementary school student had been a close contact of one of the infected members from the social club, and while test results have not come back yet for the student, the child’s school, which was not named, was closed on Friday as a precaution.

Before the four cases were confirmed, eight domestic COVID-19 infections had been reported at the airport this week, including seven cleaners and a taxi driver tasked with taking passengers to and from quarantine facilities.

Chaser has chased $10 billion in late payments

LONDON, Jan. 06, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —  Chaser, the global accounts receivables automation software and credit control service provider, has a good reason to celebrate the start of 2022: it has achieved the milestone of helping users chase and recover $10 billion in late payments. This is aligned with the company’s mission to help businesses worldwide get paid in an efficient and friendly way so that they improve cash flow.

Chaser enhances the way that businesses chase unpaid invoices and makes it easier for customers to pay their suppliers. Using the end-to-end accounts receivables software Chaser, businesses can schedule, track, and chase invoice payments automatically, until payment is received. On average, 48% of invoices are paid late every month (Xero and Paypal, 2019), which causes difficulty forecasting, cash flow strains, stifling business growth, and hours of employee time spent following up on overdue payments. In fact, 30% of businesses believe late payments are affecting their ability to keep their business open (Businesswire, 2021).

Businesses using Chaser to manage their accounts receivables have seen results such as recovering $26,600 of late payments from customers in just 30 minutes, getting invoices paid an average of 54 days faster, and saving over 15 hours per week on receivables tasks. See more Chaser user stories here.

This signifies a huge step towards helping businesses reduce the late payments that cause cash flow strains and business failures year after year. By adopting a structured accounts receivables process and using an automation tool like Chaser, businesses globally can improve their cash flow and reduce the risk of late payments to their business.

“By using the software to manage the accounts receivables process end-to-end, businesses can efficiently and effectively follow up on invoices, reducing late payments and improving cash flow. Chaser continues to develop features and functionalities to help businesses worldwide automate their processes and reduce late payments, and will be launching SMS chasing in early-2022 to support users further.” – Sonia Dorais, CEO of Chaser.

VinFast Launches VinFirst NFT for EV’s Early-Bird Reservation

VinFast

VinFast Global EV Day

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 05, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — VinFast, the global electric vehicle (EV) brand owned by Vingroup – the largest private conglomerate in Vietnam with a total capitalization of 34.9 billion USD from three publicly traded companies (as of Nov 3, 2021) – has partnered with AAG Ventures and Harmony to announce a world-first in the use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as part of the EV reservation process. This is the first time NFTs have been utilized in this way for the automotive industry, highlighting how blockchain technology is being used in real-world use cases.

To accelerate the development process, VinFast partnered with AAG Ventures, a pioneering company in the metaverse space, to develop a decentralized application on the Harmony blockchain. Thanks to the ultra-fast and ultra-economical Harmony blockchain, the interaction is seamless. It becomes part of the overall experience that customers can look forward to as Vingroup further explores more use cases within its ecosystem.

The NFT process

The NFT deployment works like: Customers who pay the reservation fee for their VinFast EV will receive a VinFirst NFT, a certificate on the blockchain using Harmony, a widely used cross-chain sharding protocol. This serves as a certificate of priority membership for super-early adopters that support the brand -whom VinFast calls “VinFirst” members. Following the VinFirst NFT, VinFast will airdrop various rewards and perks to its VinFirst members from time to time. The e – vouchers and NFTs will be transferable after April 5, 2022 and NFTs create an easier way to go on secondary marketplace for the customers.

Excitement in the blockchain community

VinFast’s pioneering use of NFTs has already created excitement in the blockchain community. Commenters include the Co-Founders of AAG Ventures – Nelly Sutjiadi and Jack Vinijtrongjit, NFT Collector Ben Yu, Co-Founder & CTO of Harmony Rongjian Lan, and popular YouTuber Nas Daily.

“Deploying the VinFast NFTs that will use a smart contract to manage the EV car reservation and planting of a physical tree that will offset carbon emissions is a wonderful showcase of the use of blockchain,” said Nelly Sutjiadi, Co-Founder of AAG Ventures and Harmony Advisor & Validator. “True metaverse in action with real-world benefit – very cool and exciting!”

We are super excited to see VinFast, the global EV brand, launch the world’s first NFTs for EV reservations on Harmony,” said Rongjian Lan, Co-Founder & CTO of Harmony. “This collaboration signifies the growing real-world adoption of blockchain technology and NFTs, which reduces friction and provides innovative approaches to benefit customers in the traditional business process. Harmony welcomes more traditional businesses with a forward-looking mindset to embrace blockchain technology and improve business process with our scalable & secure blockchain infrastructure.”

“By helping enable this collaboration with VinFast and Harmony, we are bridging both the digital and physical world,” said AAG Ventures Co-Founder Jack Vinijtrongjit. “By owning a VinFirst NFT, you are not just an early adopter of the new VinFast EV; you also become a citizen of the Vingroup metaverse where you can enjoy the future benefits that the company will provide. That, to me, is an example of where the blockchain and NFT technology will become real – and transformative – to most people.” Vinijtrongjit added.

According to NFT Collector, Ben Yu, “I’ve learned firsthand that VinFast isn’t just a nice name – they are one of the fastest moving companies I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, and seeing them develop and launch the first-ever automobile OEM proof of membership NFT project in record time has really shown me that these are the right people to bet on. I’ll be reserving my VinFast EV, and hope you will join me.”
