Chiayi County to hold this year’s National Day fireworks

This year’s Double Ten National Day fireworks will take place in the southern Taiwan county of Chiayi, Deputy Minister of the Interior Chen Tsung-yen (???) announced Friday, predicting the COVID-19 pandemic will have eased up by then.

The fireworks will be held at the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum on Oct. 10, Chen said, encouraging people to visit Chiayi for the dazzling fireworks show during the three-day holiday weekend.

He suggested that people interested in watching the show in Chiayi start booking hotel rooms for that weekend now in case the rooms get quickly sold out.

Chen, who is also deputy head of the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) and secretary-general of a committee responsible for National Day celebrations, said in a press conference that he believed Taiwan will have returned to normal life by October, when many current disease control measures will no longer be in place.

Also attending the press event, Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang (???) said the county will hold an exhibition on agricultural machinery from Oct. 1-3 and the Citizens Sports Games from Oct. 8-13, inviting people around Taiwan to take the opportunity to experience the county more.

Details of the fireworks, which took place in Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan last year, have not yet been released.
