CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan reports 53 new COVID-19 cases

Taiwan reported 53 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, consisting of 16 domestically transmitted cases and 37 originating abroad, and no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The new domestic cases involved six men and 10 women ranging from under 10 years old to their 80s, and they were all linked to previously reported clusters in Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, and Yilan County, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (???) said.

Of the 16 people infected domestically, 10 were fully vaccinated, according to CECC data.

In addition to the domestic cases, Taiwan also reported 37 imported cases on Wednesday, involving people who arrived in Taiwan from the United States, France, Singapore, Canada, Honduras, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia, Japan and Croatia.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 18,903 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,097 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported on Wednesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the country remained at 851.
