Taiwan on Wednesday recorded 54 new COVID-19 cases, consisting of 10 domestically transmitted cases and 44 that originated abroad, with no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
Of the domestic cases, four were from a family cluster in Kaohsiung with an unknown source of infection, CECC head Chen Shih-chung (???) said at a daily press briefing.
The rest were linked to previous clusters in Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan, Chen said, adding that the 10 domestic cases– six male and four female — are aged from under 10 to under 50.
In addition to the domestic cases, Taiwan also reported 44 imported cases on Wednesday, with 26 coming from 17 countries including the United States, Austria, Singapore, Spain, Canada and Vietnam.
The countries of origin for the other 18 cases remained under investigation, according to the CECC.
To date, Taiwan has confirmed 19,293 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,238 domestically transmitted infections.
With no deaths reported on Wednesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the country remains unchanged at 851.
