CORONAVIRUS/Temperature checks at transportation venues to be discontinued Nov. 7

Passengers taking public transportation in Taiwan will no longer be required to have temperature checks, starting Nov. 7, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) said Tuesday.

The temperature monitoring equipment at Taiwan Railways Administration and Taiwan High Speed Rail stations, however, will remain in place until the end of the year for travelers who voluntarily wish to check their temperature, the ministry said.

The decision to discontinue compulsory temperature checks at public transportation venues and at most business places is part of Taiwan’s plans to further ease its COVID-19 restrictions with effect from Nov. 7, according to government authorities.

Meanwhile, the mask wearing mandate for passengers taking public transportation will remain in place, the MOTC said, adding that periodic disinfection of the vehicles will also continue.
