CORONAVIRUS/Three more domestic COVID-19 cases at Taoyuan airport confirmed

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has confirmed three more domestic COVID-19 cases linked to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, bringing the total reported this week to eight.

The three new cases are all women in their 50s to 60s who work as cleaners at the airport, according to a CECC statement released Wednesday evening.

The five previously reported cases linked to the airport — including one confirmed earlier Wednesday — involve four cleaners at the airport and a taxi driver tasked with taking passengers to and from quarantine facilities.

The CECC has stated previously that the cleaners are employed by the Sincere Group.

In response to the new cases, 93 other cleaners who work the night shift at the airport will be asked to quarantine at government facilities, the CECC said.

Another 768 people working for the Sincere Group at the airport will be instructed to take rapid tests on Thursday and Friday, and undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on Saturday, the CECC added.
