Ex-NBA star Allen Iverson to visit Taiwan

Basketball Hall of Famer Allen Iverson will visit Taiwan during the summer, the 2001 NBA MVP said in a video posted on sports promoter Evolution Sports social media platform Monday.

“Wanted to let you guys be the first to know that I’ll be visiting Taiwan this summer. Can’t wait to see my many fans in person,” said Iverson, an 11-time NBA All-Star, and four-time NBA scoring champ.

On the post, Evolution Sports said they had invited Iverson to come to Taiwan to meet with Taiwanese fans.

In addition to meeting with fans, Evolution Sports said they hoped Iverson’s visit would inspire basketball-loving children in disadvantaged rural areas.

The 47-year-old Iverson was picked first in the 1996 NBA draft and spent 14 seasons in the league before ending his career with a short stint at Turkey’s Besiktas J.K. in 2011.

Standing at 1.83 meters tall, Iverson averaged 26.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game as a point guard and shooting guard in the NBA.

Recognized for his quickness, strength and handling, Iverson won the NBA regular season scoring title in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2005.

During his NBA career, Iverson scored over 24,300 points and dished more than 5,600 dimes.

Iverson left an indelible mark on the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001 when he was named regular season MVP.
