Gov’t discusses measures to prevent damage from heavy rain, snow

SEOUL, – The Ministry of the Interior and Safety held a pan-government meeting Sunday to discuss measures to prevent damage from heavy rain and snow forecast across the nation early this week.

The ministry convened the video conference involving officials from eight ministries and 17 provinces in response to the forecast of 30 to 80 mm of rain in Gangwon Province, North Gyeongsang Province, the southern coast and Jeju Island on Monday and Tuesday.

The Korea Meteorological Administration also predicted 10-20 centimeters of snow in some mountainous regions in Gangwon Province, with some regions potentially forecast to receive up to 30 cm over the cited period.

During the meeting, the ministry advised related ministries and provinces to clean rainwater drains and ensure proper management of drainage facilities.

In mountainous regions expecting heavy snow, the ministry recommended proactive placement of snow removal equipment and relief supplies, and the implementation of safety measures to prevent accidents.
