Kaohsiung promoting agricultural products at Gulf food exhibition

Kaohsiung is promoting local agricultural products at Gulfood, the world’s largest food exhibition, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to further explore overseas business opportunities, the city’s government said Tuesday.

Among the featured products are green jujubes and guavas, the southern Taiwanese city’s Agricultural Bureau said, adding that those have been well-received in the trade fair held in the UAE.

The bureau pointed out that there will be some good business opportunities at the Feb. 20-24 exhibition for Taiwan as agricultural production accounts for less than 1 percent of UAE’s gross domestic product each year.

The Gulf country imports roughly US$2 billion worth of fruits each year, the bureau said, expressing high hopes for the market.

At the exhibition, food buyers from other countries — including Australia, Tunisia, Colombia and India — have also shown interest in Kaohsiung’s agricultural products, the bureau said.

The food exhibition is hosting a record 5,000 exhibitors from over 125 countries this year, said the Dubai World Trade Centre, organizer of Gulfood 2023.
