A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Taitung in southeastern Taiwan at 4:48 p.m. Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The epicenter of the temblor was located about 18.6 kilometers north-northeast of Taitung County Hall, at a depth of 10 km, the bureau’s Seismology Center said.
The earthquake’s intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a quake, reached a 4 on Taiwan’s 7-tier intensity scale in Taitung, indicating intense shaking of buildings and movements of unsecured objects indoors.
An intensity of 2 was recorded in Hualien.
