President Tsai visits firefighters, soldiers on duty during holiday

President Tsai Ing-wen (???) on Wednesday visited firefighters and military personnel in northern Taiwan to thank them for working during the Lunar New Year holiday.

The president’s tour included a visit to the Port of Keelung’s Fire Department, accompanied by Keelung Mayor Lin Yu-chang (???), where she greeted firefighters with red envelopes and fruit baskets.

Tsai thanked them for carrying out missions to protect Taiwan’s people and keep a key transportation hub secure.

The president also pledged that the government will continue to provide extra funding and better equipment to boost firefighting capacity.

She then headed to the Army’s 269th Mechanized Infantry Brigade in Taoyuan, which is responsible for guarding the northern part of the island.

Tsai was first briefed by the troops before viewing an armored vehicles exercise, and then praised the servicemen and women for performing their duties during the long break.

She lauded the brigade’s efforts in helping nearby hospitals carry out COVID-19 rapid screening missions amid an ongoing coronavirus outbreak in Taoyuan.
