SEOUL, The presidential office appointed Kim Soo-kyung, presidential secretary for unification affairs, as its new spokesperson Sunday.
The appointment comes after former spokesperson Lee Do-woon’s promotion to senior presidential secretary for public relations last week.
“I will do my best to kindly explain current issues in state affairs in a way that is easy to understand from the people’s eye level,” Kim said during a press briefing at the presidential office. “I will work hard to accurately deliver state affairs to the people without distortion.”
The new spokesperson worked as a reporter for the Dong-a Ilbo newspaper in the early 2000s before obtaining a doctorate degree in sociology at Stanford University.
She later researched North Korean human rights issues and worked at Korea University, the Ministry of Unification and Hanshin University.
