Taiwan wins 1 gold, 2 bronze at Canada Para badminton tournament

Taiwanese athletes bagged one gold and two bronze medals at the 2022 YONEX Canada Para Badminton International held in Ottawa from June 8 to 12.

Taiwanese badminton star Fang Jen-yu (???) was the headliner, winning the men’s singles SU5 gold medal.

In the final on June 12, the 23-year-old Fang beat top seed Meril Loquette of France 2-1 to grab his second international title after capturing his first career tournament victory at the 2022 Spanish Para-Badminton International on March 8.

Fang finished fourth in the men’s singles SU5 event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

In the men’s singles SL4 category, Taiwanese shuttler Yeh En-chuan (???) won two matches on the opening day to enter the semifinals, but was then topped by a German opponent to finish with a bronze medal.

Also, 15-year-old Wu Yu-yen (???), who was making her first appearance in an international competition, took bronze in the women’s singles SH6 category.
