Taiwanese speed skater Chen Ying-chu picks up third World Games medal

Taiwanese speed skater Chen Ying-chu (???) picked up another bronze at the Roller Sports 2022 World Games in the United States after finishing third in the women’s Speed Skating Road Sprint 1 Lap event on Monday.

The bronze is the Taiwan athlete’s third medal at the World Games after completing the event in a time of 1 minute and 12.29 seconds in the final, finishing behind Nerea Langa Torres of Spain and Mathilde Pedronno of France with times of 1:9.28 and 1:9.95, respectively.

Chen, bagged her first medal of the games last Friday with a bronze in the women’s 200-meter speed skating track event, which was followed by a silver in the 100-meter road sprint on Sunday.

However, she was disqualified from the 500-meter track event last Friday for making contact with a fellow competitor.

In her latest race, Chen again came into contact with another skater and was knocked over at the start of the event.

Speaking about the incident after the race, the Taiwanese skater said all she could think about at the time was getting up and continuing the race.

“I didn’t want to lose and I had to catch up to everyone in front of me,” Chen said.

Despite winning a bronze medal, Chen said she was a little disappointed after putting in so much hard work and preparation.

Currently, Taiwan has a medal tally of four silvers and three bronze at the World Games, which is being held from July 7-17 in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States.
